Estonian company taxes in short

Estonia is known for its simple tax system, but there are still rules and deadlines that an owner abroad can easily miss. These are the basics we take care of for you:

  • No corporate income tax on retained profit. Tax is paid only when profit is distributed, for example as dividends.
  • VAT registration is mandatory once your taxable turnover exceeds 40 000 € in a calendar year. You can also register voluntarily.
  • Payments to yourself as salary or board member fee are declared monthly in the TSD return.
  • The annual report must be filed with the Business Register within six months after the end of the financial year.
  • Contact person: if your management board is located outside Estonia, the company must have a contact person in Estonia.

This is a general overview, not tax advice for your specific situation. On the free call we will tell you what applies to your company.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to come to Estonia?

No. We work fully digitally. Documents come through CostPocket or e-mail and bank transactions are imported directly into the accounting software.

Can I switch accountants in the middle of the year?

Yes. You can switch at any time. We take over the data from your previous accountant and make sure nothing is missed.

Which accounting software do you use?

We work with Merit Aktiva, Directo, Erply and Standard Books. If you already use one of them, we continue in it.

Can you register my company for VAT?

Yes. We check whether registration is mandatory or makes sense for you and submit the application.

How do I pay myself from my Estonian company?

The usual options are a salary, a board member fee or dividends. Each is taxed differently. We will help you choose what works best in your situation.

What happens if I miss the annual report deadline?

The Business Register can impose a fine and, in the end, delete the company from the register. We keep track of the deadline and prepare the report in time.
